Year 13 Rotorua Fieldtrip

March 22nd 2009 Year 13 Rotorua Fieldtrip

Rotorua was the destination for 42 Year 13 students accompanied by Mr Russell, Hewlett, Russell and Ruakere.
Students on the trip were expected to complete land use maps of the city and collect relevant information for their own hypothesis based on “how the impact of a tourism operation affected spatial patterns in the city of Rotorua”. This information will be used to complete the 3.5 Inquiry, an internal NCEA assessment which part of their Year 13 Geography course.

Whilst there, the boys were shown around the Wai O Tapu Gethermal area as an example of why tourism was developed in the 1800’s. They also visited the Rotorua museum, and Agrodome plus its’ surrounding activities. They attended lecturers on “Tourism – The Demand Factors, Statistics and Spatial”, “Tourism – A Cultural Process” and “Tourism Marketing – From the National Tourism Board level to the Tourist operator”. The trip ended on a high when students were offered the opportunity to go on a White Water Rafting trip on the Kaituna River.
