Year 13 Rotorua Fieldtrip
March 22nd 2009 Year 13 Rotorua Fieldtrip
Rotorua was the destination for 42 Year 13 students accompanied by Mr Russell, Hewlett, Russell and Ruakere.
Students on the trip were expected to complete land use maps of the city and collect relevant information for their own hypothesis based on “how the impact of a tourism operation affected spatial patterns in the city of Rotorua”. This information will be used to complete the 3.5 Inquiry, an internal NCEA assessment which part of their Year 13 Geography course.
Whilst there, the boys were shown around the Wai O Tapu Gethermal area as an example of why tourism was developed in the 1800’s. They also visited the Rotorua museum, and Agrodome plus its’ surrounding activities. They attended lecturers on “Tourism – The Demand Factors, Statistics and Spatial”, “Tourism – A Cultural Process” and “Tourism Marketing – From the National Tourism Board level to the Tourist operator”. The trip ended on a high when students were offered the opportunity to go on a White Water Rafting trip on the Kaituna River.

Year 11 Taranaki Landscape
March 4th 2009 Year 11 Taranaki Landscape Fieldtrip
107 Year 11 students accompanied by Mr Vernon, Hewlett and Corlett, travelled to Mount Taranaki, to study the hypothesis, that "Landscape, changes significantly as altitude increases".
The students completed a range of experiments at two sites, the first at 600m from sea level and the second 1200m on the slopes of Mount Taranaki. A number of experiments were carried out on vegetation, relief, soil, climate and the impact of humans on the landscape. The aim of the fieldtrip was to collect data so that they can successfully complete their NCEA internal geography inquiry.

Over the last nine years the Geography Department has given the Year 13 Geography students an opportunity to travel to Thailand as part of an optional fieldtrip.
In Year 13 Geography students study a topic on Tourism Development. The schools overseas case study for this topic is the tropical island of Phuket in Southern Thailand. In June/July 2008 we intend giving students the option of spending 3 days in Bangkok and five days in Phuket
The students look at two areas of Thailand.
